    Svitolina 2-1 Boulter*

That's a fine drop shot from Elina Svitolina, and she races to 40-0 before netting a forehand from the back of the court.

Katie Boulter can't do much with a return of serve, though, and Svitolina marches over to her chair.

    *Svitolina 1-1 Boulter

Elina Svitolina is a two-time quarter-finalist at the Australian Open and she reached the Wimbledon and US Open semi-finals in 2019.

She was reached the season-ending WTA Finals, where she lost to Ashleigh Barty, and she's arrived in Melbourne as the fifth seed.

Svitolina hasn’t fallen to a player outside the Top 100 since she was beaten by 114-ranked Nicole Gibbs in Hong Kong three years ago.

    *Svitolina 1-1 Boulter

Katie Boulter sends a couple of winners into the corner of the court, stepping forward and outmuscling Elina Svitolina in a couple of rallies.

Considering she hasn't got a lot of competitive tennis under her belt after that back injury, Boulter is moving nicely, and she moves to 40-15 as Svitolina nets a well-intentioned drop shot.

    Bang. Ace. Game, Boulter.

    Svitolina 1-0 Boulter*

Katie Boulter was on her way up the rankings last year before her season was curtailed by a back injury she sustained at the Fed Cup.

She's never faced a top five player before but she has reached the second round in Australia before, when she advanced last year.

Her only time contesting a top 10 player was when she played then world number six Karolina Pliskova in the Tianjin Open quarter-finals - she lost 5-7 6-0 6-3.

    *Svitolina 0-0 Boulter

An early break point for Katie Boulter as Elina Svitolina hammers a forehand long, but that advantage is quickly closed down by the Ukrainian.

It's game point to Svitolina but Boulter fires a backhand down the line and Svitolina, outpaced, nets.

    Deuce.

So Johanna Konta is out of the Australian Open, but there are plenty of British hopefuls still to come on day two with Kyle Edmund, Harriet Dart, Heather Watson, Katie Boulter and Cameron Norrie all in action.

We will be back to follow the Brits a bit later, but until then have a read of Jonathan Jurejko's report from Melbourne Park right here.

    Konta 4-6 2-6 Jabeur

Johanna Konta's 2020 Australian Open campaign lasted just one hour, three minutes.

A very efficient performance from Tunisia's Ons Jabeur.

British number one and 12th seed Konta, who has been struggling with a knee injury, looked like she was feeling her lack of matches out there.
