    Halep 1-0 Muguruza*

Very nice from Halep, who whips a backhand pass as Muguruza comes to the net. Muguruza then moves Halep around the court in a rally and puts away the backhand.

Halep gets fortunate with a net tip and moves up to 30-15. The quality has already been better than the last semi-final. This is going to be good...

    Halep 1-0 Muguruza*

Pretty good start from Halep, who doesn't show the same signs of nerves we saw from Ashleigh Barty.

Muguruza responds with a thumping forehand winner down the line but Halep holds with a big serve out wide.

    Halep v Muguruza

Muguruza did not look a contender for the title when, afflicted by illness, she lost her first set at this year's tournament 6-0 to American Shelby Rogers.

She has improved dramatically since then though. Fifth seed Elina Svitolina and ninth seed Kiki Bertens were beaten in straight sets in the previous two rounds and 30th seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkov Pavlyuchenkova went the same way on Wednesday with defeat to Muguruza.

It's the Spaniard's first Grand Slam semi-final since the 2018 French Open.

"I'm excited to play my first semi-final here," said Muguruza. "I've known her [Halep] for quite a long time so it's going to be a tough match."
