    World number one Ashleigh Barty held off a spirited Carla Suarez Navarro to win 6-1 6-7 (1-7) 6-1, and five-time champion Venus Williams earlier beat Romanian Mihaela Buzarnescu 7-5 4-6 6-3 on her 90th Grand Slam appearance.

    She will play Tunisia's 21st seed Ons Jabeur next, after she swept past Sweden's Rebecca Peterson 6-2 6-1 in 62 minutes.

    Meanwhile, former world number one Karolina Pliskova overcame a first-set scare to beat Slovenia's Tamara Zidansek 7-5 6-4 will face Donna Vekic in the second round.

    A rare lengthy rally in the eighth game of this set and it goes Kyrgios' way as Humbert is unable to lift one from his shoelaces from the back of the court.

    Kyrgios then tries one through the legs, but it was never on and his shot rolls tamely into the net. It doesn't matter as he bolts down an unstoppable serve shortly after.

    Play is over on the outside courts for the day with Russia's Elena Vesnina having just finished off Italian Martina Trevisan 7-5 6-1 on court 11.

    Among the matches forced to stop for bad light was Gael Monfils v Christopher O'Connell with the French 13th seed 3-2 up in the final set.

    Marin Cilic won a tie-break to take the first set against Salvatore Caruso when they decided to stop and finish off tomorrow.

    As you may have seen if you were with us a little earlier, Britain's Cameron Norrie lost a first-set tie-break to Lucas Pouille on court two immediately before they called a halt.

    Roger Federer avoided a huge upset as France's Adrian Mannarino withdrew through injury when leading the eight-time champion 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 3-6 4-2 on Centre Court.

    Meanwhile, world number two Daniil Medvedev prevailed in four sets against Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff, winning 6-4 6-1 4-6 7-6 (7-3), and fourth seed Alexander Zverev claimed a comfortable 6-3 6-4 6-1 win against the Netherlands' Tallon Griekspoor.

    Among the other top seeds, Argentine ninth seed Diego Schwartzman defeated France's Benoit Paire 6-3 6-4 6-0 and Canadian 10th seed Denis Shapovalov overcame German Philipp Kohlschreiber in five sets.
