  1. 'Oh my God' - Federer shock at Williams retirementpublished at 20:22 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Katie Falkingham
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Roger Federer has just been told about Serena Williams' retirement through injury in his news conference, having watched his opponent Adrian Mannarino do the same after also slipping.

"As I was walking out, the referee asked me how I was feeling about the court. I said, 'I think the court plays normally as we know it'," said Federer.

"I do feel it feels a tad more slippery maybe under the roof. I don't know if it's just a gut feeling. You do have to move very, very carefully out there. If you push too hard in the wrong moments, you do go down.

"I feel for a lot of players, it's super key to get through those first two rounds because the grass is more slippery, it is more soft. As the tournament progresses, usually it gets harder and easier to move on.

"This is obviously terrible that it's back-to-back matches and it hits Serena as well. Oh my God, I can't believe it."

A great serve from Cameron Norrie out on court two and that's a big hold when he was two points away from losing the set. But it's 5-5, still up for grabs.

  3. Murray's next opponent is setpublished at 20:21 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

German qualifier Oscar Otte has become just the second man to win a final-set tie-break at Wimbledon - he's prevailed 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-7 (5-7) 13-12 (7-2) against Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech.

Up next for him? Andy Murray, a match which would normally be scheduled for tomorrow but we wait for confirmation on that.

Otte resumed his match today after they had to stop at 9-9 in the final set last night.

    Struff 4-6 1-6 6-4 6-7 (3-7) Medvedev

Here is Daniil Medvedev: "I was a bit surprised by the first two sets that I managed to win so easy, that's why Grand Slams are funny - I thought 'I got it, just stay focused', and he turned it around and there was so many opportunities for both of us.

"Until the last set it was not over. It was a rollercoaster match but happy to go through."

If people didn't know about Medvedev, they're going to find out a lot more very quickly about why he is deserving of that number two seed.

Struff is a tough customer, he made this interesting and much more stressful for Medvedev than you would have expected.

Game, set and match - Sasnovich. Serena Williams retires through injurypublished at 19:57 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

Sasnovich 3-3 S Williams (retires because of injury)

And that's that. Serena Williams manages to get to her feet but can't continue. She's still in tears as she waves to the fans.

She needs help from a medic as she limps off down the tunnel. Hopefully this is not the last we see of Serena Williams at Wimbledon.

It will be a horrible, horrible ending if it is.

  15. Postpublished at 19:56 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

Serena Williams somehow produces a serve that wins her the first point of that game, but there's absolutely no movement.

A shot from Sasnovich, it's straight at Williams, but the American screams out in pain and collapses on the floor.

Game, set and match - Medvedevpublished at 19:55 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Struff 4-6 1-6 6-4 6-7 (3-7) Medvedev

Jan-Lennard Struff serves out to take this set to a tie-break, but he then finds Daniil Medvedev in sensational form and the Russian storms to 6-3 to bring up three match points.

He even finds time to stick his tongue out at the camera... and he wins it at the first attempt with a wonderful lob!

Classy stuff from Medvedev, and the second seed is safely into round two.

    Sasnovich 3-3 S Williams

This one might not be going on for a while. Serena Williams is hitting it as hard as she can when it's close to her, but is unable to run at all when it's away from her.

Sasnovich belts down an ace, but Williams, face covered in anguish, barely moves.

What rotten luck for Williams, and coming hot on the back of Mannarino's injury, there is an air of disbelief on Centre.

Unless Serena's physical state improves quickly, it feels like there could be another retirement on the cards.
