The sight nobody wants to see with less than an hour on the clock on day one of Wimbledon.

Earlier on court two, umpire Carlos Bernardes climbed down from his chair and brushed the grass with his knuckle.

"Ladies and gentleman, we are going to wait because the court is slippery."

For how long we don't yet know...

Norrie and Andujar initially waited on their chairs before the nod came to go under cover.

A big heave of the sheets was greeted by a huge cheers as it became the groundstaff's turn to produce a brief moment of entertainment.

We've had 45 minutes of action before the rain come, still enough time for some good shots from around the courts.

A little bit of rain is not going to get in the way of outdoor drinks on a summer’s day at Wimbledon…

And on come the covers across all courts two to 18.

It wouldn't be Wimbledon without a rain delay and we're getting it in early on Day One, before two weeks of non-stop sunshine. Maybe.

OK, it might be a bit more than that few droplets - umbrella out and play is suspended on Court 18.

The umpire had a quick feel of the surface before making that call. I don’t think this will be a long delay.

  11. Andujar breaks early in the second setpublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Norrie 6-0 0-1 Andujar*

Pablo Andujar lost all the games in the first set, but has an early break point chance at the start of the second.

And he takes it, with a lovely cross-court winner. This match might not be as easy for Norrie as it looked.

I really don’t want to mention rain… but there have been a few hands stretched out and glances up at the sky…

It’s OK, just teeny tiny drops…nothing that is going to dampen spirits on day one at this stage. In fact, really quite refreshing rather than anything else.

Someone get the bread knife out and switch on the toaster.

Cam Norrie has got the bakery going with an early bagel.

However... his progress may be stalled by the weather.

Splashes of rain are dropping onto the keyboard. One fan in front of me has got a Wimbledon towel draped over her head...

  14. 'Norrie's return is one of his strengths'published at 11:39 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    *Norrie 6-0 0-0 Andujar

Rock solid from Norrie and we have come to seeing that for him over the last couple of years. Norrie's return of serve is one of his strengths - just the amount of balls he makes.

Andujar has played very little and just is a little rusty.

Stepping out onto Centre Court is always a magical experience, none more so on the first morning before play starts.

Standing there looking at the hallowed turf, your mind instantly drifts to thinking about all the greats who have played here and produced legendary moments which are etched into sporting and cultural history.

Even a couple of hours before play starts, people wander in.

Sitting there to soak up the atmosphere and history, grabbing a prized photo at the side of the court to stick on the socials for posterity.

Norrie races towards two set points. He nets a return on the first of them, and then sees the second vanish with an overhead smash from Andujar. Deuce.

    Burrage 2-3 Tsurenko*

    Sonia Oxley
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Britain’s Jodie Burrage is an early break down against Lesia Tsurenko but she shouldn’t be - she was 0-40 on the Ukrainian’s serve for an immediate chance to break back but she just could not convert the chance.

She’s shaking her head and talking to herself, she can’t believe it.

Another lightning ace down the middle from Cameron Norrie who has sprinted into a 5-0 lead after only 18 minutes. He's only lost one point in his last two service games and now needs just one more to seal the opening set.
