His fourth-round match against Adrian Mannarino featured a 28-minute first-set tie-break, with Nadal eventually clinching it with his seventh set point.

He had an easier time of it from then on against the Frenchman, coming through 7-6 (16-14) 6-2 6-2.

    Nadal 1-0 Shapovalov*

As a nine-year-old, Denis Shapovalov was a mascot at the Rogers Cup, which is Canada's biggest tennis tournament.

He met Rafael Nadal who, 10 years later, he would go on to beat on a thrilling night in Montreal.

Shapovalov was ranked outside the top 100 when he toppled world number two Nadal 3-6 6-4 7-6 (7-4) in a match that lasted almost three hours.

It was Shapovalov's first meeting with a top-10 player and he went on to reach the semi-finals, where he lost to eventual champion Alexander Zverev.
