The backhand return has got a lot more solid from Ruud and that has made a lot of difference.

There is still time for Cilic to get back, he lives and dies with that forehand. You don't mind if you lose a semi-final if you do so on your own terms. Ruud has been waiting for Cilic to implode.

Cilic follows up a horrible error with a lovely ace.

He darts around and sends a forehand winner away to end the run of games against him.

Cilic, finally, puts a point to bed with a tap of the racquet at the net.

He has the advantage but once again plonks the easiest of overheads into the net. That is... well, there's no nice way to say it, it's an ugly, ugly shot.

    Deuce again.

It drives me nuts that we have Hawk Eye all year, let's put it on clay here please.

  5. Deuce on Cilic servepublished at 19:18 British Summer Time 3 June 2022

    Ruud 3-6 3-1 Cilic*

Marin Cilic is such a lovely mover on the clay. He skips forward and, with a whip of the wrist and a twist at the waist, sends a forehand winner away for 30-0.

An ace takes Cilic to game point, although Hawk Eye suggests it was long. It looked good to me, although Cilic's going to keep things going after tripping into a double fault.

Ooft, that's a bad miss from Cilic up at the net, and he picks a less than stellar time to go long on the forehand.

From 40-0, he finds himself at deuce.

Casper Ruud swirls over another good drop shot to get the advantage and then benefits as Marin Cilic sends a backhand just - and I mean just - out.

Three game in a row for Ruud.

Can Casper Ruud consolidate the break?

Ruud whirls a lovely drop shot over for 30-30 then larrups a backhand long to hand Cilic a break back point.

The older you get, the harder it is to maintain the level of attacking.

Welcome Ruud to the match. He has got to be nervous, the first time in the semi-finals and first Norwegian man to do so, so there's a lot of pressure on him.

Every tennis player's dream is to win a major championship and he's two matches away from that. This is a huge moment in his career.

This is better from Ruud, dropping his shots a little deeper, and it draws some errors out of Cilic for 0-30.

That's a big miss from Cilic, though, and it hands Ruud three break points.

Ruud has to take more risks and be the boss out there. It looks like the apprentice against the master at the moment. Casper has to release and be brave and bold to get there.

Cilic has been brilliant so far today, he's a great player.

The reason he hasn't won more in the big moments against the very best is because he has got tight and that's the difference why he has got one Slam instead of three or four, but he's starting to play like he did in the 2014 US Open.

Casper Ruud is just getting bullied from the back of the court by Marin Cilic.

A forehand winner might make him feel a little better about life, right before Cilic forces deuce from 40-15 down.

    Ruud 3-6 Cilic

Ruud's backhand is falling so short and that is enabling Cilic to dictate. Backhand-to-backhand battle and Ruud is second best.

It was like turning back time from Cilic at 33 - it's like he was a 25 year old.

Ruud needs to get the emotion out and get the crowd involved. He looks a bit like a deer in headlights at the moment and this second set is huge.

    Marin Cilic!

Another lovely winner, his 15th of the set, and he clenches his fist in celebration.

Two more like that and he's into the final.
