  1. Federer 'stopped believing' he could continue playingpublished at 21:56 British Summer Time 23 September 2022

    Federer/Nadal v Sock/Tiafoe

Federer said his decision to retire came after he "stopped believing" he could continue playing because of injuries.

The Swiss, 41, has not played since Wimbledon 2021, after which he had a third knee operation.

"The last three years have been tough to say the least," he told BBC Breakfast.

"I knew I was on very thin ice for the last year ever since I played Wimbledon.

"I tried to come back but there was a limit to what I could do. And I stopped believing in it, to be honest."

  2. 'Let's make it an unbelievable atmosphere for Roger'published at 21:53 British Summer Time 23 September 2022

Speaking in his on-court interview, Alex de Minaur said: "It's amazing. The atmosphere is just second to none. You guys are going for Team Europe but I appreciate it. I just wanted to get a win for my team and I found a way out there today.

"I don't know if there were many tactics out there. I had to be ready for a battle, Andy's a hell of a competitor and he's done so much for the sport.

"That's the beauty of team competition, you get your highest highs and lowest lows and hopefully we can get another win in the doubles."

On Roger Federer's last match: "It's going to be a special match. Hopefully you guys enjoy the show and let's make it an unbelievable atmosphere for Roger one last time."

    Well said, Alex.

Woah! A big save from Murray at the net gives him a crucial point.

De Minaur sends the Scot hurtling towards another teasing drop shot, though, and it's a well-earned point for the Australian.

Murray appears to be struggling with his legs at the moment. It's been a draining match, to be fair, and the 35-year-old must dig deep now to deliver a point for Team Europe.

But what's this? A couple of errors from De Minaur gifts Murray his first break point of the set.

Potentially big moment, but Murray turns away in frustration as he nets.

A second break point comes and goes before De Minaur holds. Murray will serve to stay in the second set.

And then a superb cross-court passing forehand clinches the game. That's a hold to love for the Scot.
