  1. What is the Laver Cup and who else is playing?published at 19:03 British Summer Time 23 September 2022

Europe take on a world team in the three-day Laver Cup, an annual event which started in 2017.

As well as Federer, Nadal and Murray, 21-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic is also on Team Europe, who are captained by Bjorn Bjorg.

Team World is captained by John McEnroe - Borg's arch rival in their playing days - with American Taylor Fritz and Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime also among the squad.

The Laver Cup, named after Australian great Rod Laver, was Federer's brainchild and Europe have won all four previous editions of the event which sees a total of 10 singles and two doubles matches.

Each match win is worth one point on Friday, two points on Saturday, and three points on Sunday, with the first team to earn 13 points declared the winners.

The event is sanctioned by the ATP but does not carry ranking points for the players. Three players on each side are determined by the world rankings, with three others picked by the captain.

  2. Federer's farewellpublished at 19:00 British Summer Time 23 September 2022

Here we are, then: the day tennis fans hoped would never come.

Roger Federer, one of the greatest to ever do it, plays his last match.

It's admittedly a little different to how we perhaps would have envisaged his farewell. Centre Court, his favourite playground, always seemed the perfect setting for him to bow out, but sadly his body has made a Wimbledon swansong impossible.

On the other hand, we're just happy to see him in action one last time, bringing down the curtain on his glittering career alongside long-time adversary Rafael Nadal for Team Europe on the opening night of this year's Laver Cup.

The 'Fedal' pairing, boasting a combined 42 Grand Slam singles titles, take on Team World's Jack Sock & Frances Tiafoe at London's O2 Arena.

It should be a fun evening. Emotional, but fun.
