Havard Lorentzen won gold for Norway a little earlier on, and he's another Olympian who has battled his fair share of pain.

"Two and a half years ago I had a big crash on the ice in training and cut off half my calf," he said.

"Ever since then training has been good. I've come back stronger than ever and the last two seasons have been amazing. Now to crown it with Olympic gold, it's unbelievable."

Switzerland are keeping this match very much in the balance. It has been a see-saw scoring match between two very good teams.

The Swiss are playing excellent.

A tense ninth end sees Switzerland claim a crucial two points to take the lead going into the last of the regulation 10 ends.

GB need two points because if they go in level to sudden death then the Swiss will have the crucial hammer (final stone) making them favourites for the win.

Brad Hall just moves a little further down the standings to 12th place. That's where he should finish.

There was nothing much wrong with that run other than the little knock at the top that cost him.

He had already lost the speed from the top. All-in-all I think Brad Hall has had a good competition.

If they finish in the top 12 then that is a good result considering their world ranking.

It's a combined time of 3:18.34 for Brad Hall and GB. A minor knock at the top of the course cost them a bit of time, and that puts them second overall at this pretty early stage.

American star Mikaela Shiffrin has pulled out of Wednesday's Olympic downhill event because of a schedule change due to approaching bad weather.

The 22-year-old won the giant slalom title earlier in the week.

But she missed out on a medal in the slalom on Friday, finishing fourth, and did not compete in Saturday's super G because of weather postponements.

Her decision comes after organisers brought forward Friday's combined event to Thursday with strong winds forecast.

"As much as I wanted to compete in the Olympic downhill, with the schedule change, it's important for me to focus my energy on preparing for the combined," said the two-time Olympic champion.

Qualifying for the me's team final ski jumping is under way, with the medals to be decided from 13:36.
