This OAR team is so dangerous. If you turn the puck over in your own zone and give them second chances, they are going to make you pay.

Germany have to do a better job of managing the puck in their zone.

Russia have more cutting edge than a brand new set of kitchen knives. Sergei Mozyakin pounces on a rebound to force Germany keeper Danny Aus Den Birken into a smart stop. First chance of the game.

    Men's final: OAR 0-0 Germany

Can Germany take advantage of the power play? No obvious signs that they are going to be able to yet.

The OAR - the shortest odds with the bookmakers to win gold ahead of the tournament - are not being troubled.

Not the start the Russians wanted. Forward Sergei Andronov's adrenaline is pumping a little too much, he trips one of his German opponents and is sent off to the bin for a couple of minutes.

No one predicted Germany to be in this final, no one expects them to win.

But they got past Switzerland, Sweden and Canada, so who's to say they can't beat the OAR unit?

The Pyeongchang DJ has pressed play on some generic EDM in the name of crowd-pumping.

Here we go then... the ref drops the puck, nearly gets his hand taken off and we're under way.

Germany the 'surprise package'published at 04:09 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2018

    Men's final: OAR v Germany

    Seth Bennett
    Commentator on BBC TV

OAR are trying to become the first team with Russians in it to win since 1992. For many, that's a lifetime, but for the nation of Russia, it will seem a lot longer than that.

Germany are the surprise package of these Games. They were ranked 10th coming into this tournament but they have just got better and better.

Russia has the next strongest domestic league after the USA and Canada, and a Russian team last took gold in 1992, when they competed as the Unified Team following the break-up of the Soviet Union.

They boast the tournament's strongest offence and defence - but the last time they reached the Olympic final, in 1998, they also began as favourites only to lose to the Czech Republic.

There will be no NHL players, but hopefully no lack of drama in one of the Games' marquee events.

Germany are the tournament's surprise package, seeing off Sweden and Canada on their way to a first Olympic final.

There they meet the Olympic athletes from Russia, who are aiming to win gold for the first time since 1992.

Karen Cox: Favourite part of the Winter Olympics? Watching the GB women's curling semi-final live, to share friction (or lack of!) in action with my class. My 7 & 8 year olds were totally engaged with both the science and the sport.

Steve Harvey: The best Olympic moment for me was watching the self-funded girls in the bobsleigh being bettered only by top-funded teams. A fantastic achievement!

Francesco Friedrich is definitely on the way to matching Andre Lange. He's now set himself up as double Olympic champion and got years and years ahead of him. He could well out do Lange.

  13. British bid gone 'drastically wrong'published at 03:51 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2018

    Men's four-man bobsleigh

    Nick Hope
    BBC Sport in Pyeongchang

No ‘worst case scenario’ predications would have seen the two GB men’s four-man sleds finish so low in the field.

They have the technology and talent to genuinely pushing for the top six and lower medal positions, but it’s gone dramatically and drastically wrong.

Big questions will now be asked by UK Sport about how over £5m of investment has actually been spent.

Remember the funds could not even be extended to cover the women’s programme in the final months due to an overspend and their eighth-place finish is actually the best GB bobsleigh result here.

Although some of drives in the men’s races could have been better, the character of the athletes is not in question. How they recover and attempt to improve for Beijing 2022 - with possibly less funding - is going to be a bigger challenge that any they’ve faced to date.

Sarah Handcock: Thanks for getting me through sleepless nights due to last few days of pregnancy. Lizzy Yarnold and Billy Morgan definitely highlights.

Ashleigh Richards: I know it won't get too many headlines, but one of the most pleasing performances for me was the Alpine Team Event as reaching the QFs shows Britain is starting to develop real depth in Alpine skiing. Should make Beijing fun!

It's difficult in the moment to think about the possible future implications of what these results mean for the British team. But the answers need to be put out by British Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation rather than the athletes themselves.

I think it will have funding implications because UK Sport are really tight on their targets. If they'd set a top five target and we'd finished sixth or seventh then you could argue we're almost there.

But to have a top five target and finish 18th, 19th, then you're nowhere near.

British pilot Lamin Deen on the performances of the two teams: "These eight guys and those at home have done extremely well.

"To qualify two sleds for an Olympic Games, people don't understand how big that is.

"Never give up, even when you fail ten times, just keep going."

Hall's brakeman Joel Fearon, who was part of the successful team in Sochi:"There's no explanation for our performance. We've had a hard week and we all came out today fighting.

"We're sorry if we let our country down because we have worked so hard. It wasn't enough, but we'll keep fighting."

  18. It's a learning curve - Hallpublished at 03:17 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2018

British pilot Brad Hall on finishing 17th: "I'm very happy. We had two really good starts - I'm really happy with both the drives, there were a couple of mistakes but nothing major.

"It hasn't worked out this weekend but we've done a good job and that's something we should be proud of.

"It's a learning curve for me. I've performed well and I'm excited to see what I can do."

While Francesco Friedrich and his German team-mates celebrate medal success, it is a time of rueful reflection for the British bobsleighers.

They were set a minimum target of a top-five finish by UK Sport but ended up in 17th and 18th place respectively.

Let's find out the teams, led by Brad Hall and Lamin Deen, have had to say...

  20. 'Victory lap'published at 03:03 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2018

    Men's four-man bobsleigh: run four

    John Jackson
Two-time Olympic bobsledder on BBC TV

This was just a victory lap for Francesco Friedrich.

The Germans have such strength in depth. They achieved nothing in Sochi by their high standards, but look at them now. They've dominated, winning every bobsleigh event.

These teams are so close. The bobsleigh community is one big family, even though there is such fierce competition on the track.
