Sandra Naeslund has been such a dominant force on the World Cup circuit but was unable to assert that dominance in this final.

Fanny Smith finally has a medal at the Olympic Games after disappointment in Sochi.

You can see why Brittany Phelan switched from alpine to ski cross!

Serwa rocketed out into gold medal position. She was fifth in Vancouver, she came back from a rash of injuries in build up to Sochi to win silver, and now she's got gold.

Kelsey Serwa won silver in Sochi, can she hang on and go one better? She's well ahead now, two jumps to go... make that one... she's done it!

Team-mate Brittany Phelan follows her into silver... and look at the battle for bronze! Switzerland's Fanny Smith manages to hold off Sandra Naeslund and push the reigning world champion into fourth.

Phew - well, that didn't disappoint, did it?!

Before the medal final, we have the small matter of the, er, small final. That's the four skiers who failed to progress from the semi-final stage, obviously.

Not really sure of the point of this run if I'm honest...

Anyone else noticed the Pyeongchang mascot has a bit of Tony the Tiger (cartoon character famous for advertising a sugary frosted cereal enjoyed by kids) about it? Definitely. Even though Soohorang is actually a bear. Not a tiger. I can see the resemblance.

Soohorang has got some moves, I know that much. The dancing bear is keeping the crowd warm with some sick shapes as the Alpensia Ski Jumping Centre suddenly turns into a rave.

It's a one-two for the Canadians. Kelsey Serwa and Brittany Phelan have looked very good in this competition.

Phelan is an ex-alpine skier - she competed in the slalom in Sochi and has switched disciplines.

Great skiing from both. It's looking good for Canada - they're guaranteed a medal before it even starts.

I fancy Phelan for the win.

We need two more finalists. Let's go... Can Canada make it a one-two?

One of them, Brittany Phelan, is the favourite and she makes a blistering start. Swiss Sanna Luedi is adrift... but not for long. She fights back and the four are bunched together in a line like a bobsleigh team.

Phelan pulls away again as the other three jostle for position... and France's Alizee Baron is out! She falls by the wayside, leaving Luedi and the other Canadian Kelsey Serwa to battle for second.

Serwa holds off Luedi as they dash for the line, embracing compatriot Phelan as they ensure Canada will win a medal.

The first run in Friday's four-man bobsleigh training - the fifth overall - is complete and it's Peter Rico who tops the board for Switzerland.

German pair Johannes Lochner and Nico Walther make up the top three.

Britain's Lamin Deen finished 10th with Brad Hall in joint 18th.

The next runs will begin in an hour.

It's a very simple one-two for Naeslund and Smith.

We called that one. We know that Naeslund is fast and Smith is a really good overtaker, but she didn't need to do anything there. She scoped out Sandra Naeslund.

Nope... she's out! Naeslund and Smith (below) saunter through to the final.

The sky is grey and overcast in Pyeongchang, the tips of the nearby mountains shrouded in what might be cumulus cloud. Or cumulonimbus. (I didn't pay enough attention in GCSE geography.)

The clouds are thickening, and so are the crowds at the Alpensia Ski Centre. It's semi-final time!

Everything is going to plan for them at the moment.

Emily Sarsfield has done a wonderful job to get to these Games, but in that race, there were two skiers in really good form.

Brittany Phelan is looking like a favourite to, if not win gold, certainly take a place on the podium.
