With Marielle Thompson out, Sandra Naeslund is probably the clear favourite now.

She made easy work of her heat.

The medal contenders are coming thick and fast. Here's Sweden's Sandra Naeslund. She is one of the favourites for gold after finishing on the podium in all eight appearances in 2017-18 – claiming six victories in the process.

Naesland, seeded fourth in this round, shows why by leading from start to finish in the fourth heat. Job done.

Switzerland’s Fanny Smith won World Championship gold in 2013 and followed it up with silver at last year’s global gathering. Can she add a 2018 Olympic medal to her haul?

She coasts through her heat to reach the quarter-finals.

Actually Thompson is probably happy simply because she was out there on the Pyeongchang track.

Barely anyone gave her a prayer of being fit enough to compete.

It doesn't look like Marielle Thompson's injured, I think she just wasn't race prepared.

Marielle Thompson manages to raise a smile as she waits alongside Sweden's Lisa Andersson and Switzerland's Talina Gantenbein to find out the official result. She won't be smiling inside.

Pretty straightforward... Andersson and Gantenbein go through, Thompson goes home.

The Olympic champion Marielle Thompson is down and out. That is a huge surprise!

She managed to deck herself very, very heavily.

She tore her ACL back in October and hasn't raced all season.

I think she was trying to protect that knee. She caught the tail of Lisa Andersson's ski.

Right then... let's focus on the women's ski cross. Emily Sarsfield goes in the sixth heat but first up is reigning Olympic champion Marielle Thompson.

Amazing story this. Thompson tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her knee in October - that's LAST October - but is fit to compete in Pyeonchang.

    Here she goes...

Both British four-man crews have claimed a World Cup podium this season, so came into the Games in good form.

So far in training, Lamin Deen's crew have performed the best, hitting a high of ninth fastest in two sessions.

The other group, piloted by Brad Hall, have been further down the rankings and peaked at 15th in Thursday's final session.

The official heats begin on Saturday, with the top 20 progressing to the final run on Sunday.

Forget the athletes, it's the snow ploughs that are doing all the hard graft at the sliding centre today.

Despite the cold temperatures in Pyeongchang, we've not seen much snow at all.

But about 20:30 local time on Thursday, there was a decent flurry and now the clean-up begins.

Bobsleigh training is due to begin shortly, with two British teams going in their final run before the heats begin.

    Men's curling

Great Britain failed to reach the semi-finals as they lost 9-5 in their tie-breaker against Switzerland.

Kyle Smith's rink, who had to win to secure a place in the semi-finals later on Thursday, led 4-1 after the fourth end and 5-4 after the eighth.

But Switzerland scored a five-point stone in the ninth end to set up a semi-final against Sweden.

"We gave it our best shot but that's the dream over," said Smith.

It's going to be a quieter day for those in charge of the Team GB social media accounts - until late morning at least.

That's because there are two events taking place today with British interest.

    • 01:00-02:40: GB ski-cross athlete Emily Sarsfield could be in line to win a medal if she makes the latter stages of her event.
    • 11:05-14:00: The British women's team face Sweden for a place in their curling final when they compete in their semi-final.

    Day 14

FIIIIIVE GOOOLD MEDALLLLLS. Doesn't quite sound as good as five gold rings, does it?

Well, it's lucky then that there are only four gold medals up for grabs in South Korea today.

The fifth medal event is the fight for bronze in the men's curling.

    • 01:00-05:15: Figure skating - women's single programme
    • 01:00-02:40: Freestyle skiing - women's ski cross finals
    • 06:35-09:30: Curling - men's bronze medal final
    • 10:00-11:35: Speed skating - men's 1,000m final
    • 11:15-12:45: Biathlon - men's 4x7.5km relay

Yep, the curling kicks off about 11:00 GMT. I wouldn't recommend sticking with us all the way until then unless you've got a jar of finest Colombian coffee and at least three packs of biscuits. Oh, and a bag of dried fruit and nuts.

There's a little insight to the BBC Sport overnight team's tactics for boosting energy and keeping awake...
