The athletes are being welcomed on to the ice. A few waves, no doubt a few nerves and four years of work behind them as they get ready for a defining moment.

Dare I say it, Farrell Treacy looks more confident than anyone.

    Luge doubles

Luge legends Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt have made a big statement in their opening run.

The Germans top the standings going into the second and final runs, which begin at 13:35 GMT.

Their speedy time of 58.255 seconds was 0.045 seconds faster than compatriots Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken.

Austrian pair Thomas Steu Lorenz Koller are in third at 0.171 seconds slower.

I predict that Farrell Treacy will have similar tactics in the final, so he'll want to make sure he's in the mix and potentially controlling the race a little bit.

I do think it will be a fast race because there are so many people in it.

Seven minutes until we see a British man in a short-track Olympic final.

Farrell Treacy's name is hot right now. We are looking for our first short-track medal since 1994. I think Take That were still running the show back then...

    Women's 1000m

It was a very fast race the way the race went I don't think Kathryn Thomson could have done anything else.

Choi Minjeong lead the race all the way through which meant it was fast and won.

So, if one of the slightly slower skaters had pulled some of the work and lead the race, then one it wouldn't have been as quick and two that person would have got tired and Kat would have been more in the game and able to make some moves

The fact it was fast from the start and she was in lane four, she didn't have a chance to get into the mix and impose herself.

An amazing race by Farrell Treacy, he stayed calm, he made some moves early in the race and got into a really good position.

He was almost completely out of the race, it was a big hit and he went right out to the barrier and lost all his speed but got back in the race and got involved.

  16. Farrell's fight...published at 13:00 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2022

    Men's 1500m

Since his appearance at the 2018 Olympic Games Farrell Treacy says he has had "four years of injury chaos".

“I’ve been recovering from a broken leg and ankle, a twisted knee, damaged ligaments and hip surgery," he said before the Games.

A funding cut meant he was no longer tied to training in the UK, and after stints in Italy and Hungary, he benefitted from improved facilities in the USA.

“I’ve become a different athlete and more confident,” he said. “Before I was confident in my tactics but maybe not in delivering the actual results.”

Because Farrell was in a qualifying position when he got hit he's been advanced.

I've never watched a 10-person race. It's never going to be clean. There will definitely be hits and disqualifications.

Farrell has worked super hard and raced brilliantly. He put himself in that position. It wasn't luck, he stayed really calm.

What a day for Farrell Treacy and it just proves that you never know what is going to happen in short track racing.

You wouldn't have favoured him in that line-up to come through it but he has.
