Great Britain's gold medal winning women were the only curling medallists at Beijing 2022 who did not finish in the top five in at least one of the last two World Championships.

In 2019, Britain's women finished 10th at the World Championships and last year they were two places higher in eighth.

Great Britain is the 23rd team to win gold at the 2022 Winter Olympics, beating the record of 22 set at Sochi 2014 and equalled at Pyeongchang 2018.

And that means there is just one more gold medal to be settled at Beijing 2022!

That one will be awarded in the men's ice hockey final, and it's reigning champions the Russian Olympic Committee who are in the lead.

They're 1-0 up against Finland following Mikhail Grigorenko's opener, with the match still in the first period. Long way to go!

I just spoke to pilot Brad Hall after GB's sixth-placed finish and here's what he had to say:

"Mixed emotions, we are all incredibly proud of our performance. We've all done really well, pushed incredibly fast.

"[We had the] top two starts. Drove down pretty well but just couldn't find the speed at the bottom of the track, so it's worth sixth place, very happy with that.

"It's a tough pill to swallow at the moment but we are incredibly proud of how we performed."

  14. 'We will look at the wider picture when the time is right'published at 04:30 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2022

Here's what Team GB’s Chef de Mission Georgie Harland had to say on BBC One on Team GB missing their target of three to seven medals at Beijing 2022: "There have been performances of the future.

"Of course there have been performances that have been disappointing. The athletes will be the most disappointed out of everyone. They will go away and look at that and look to the future.

"I know there was a medal target set but we need to look at what we have done here over the last couple of days, and we will look at the wider picture when the time is right.

"The funding side of things is for UK Sport to decide, they will be looking at that. We will be going away from here and going a thorough debrief, we do that every time.

"We have to look beyond that, people are gripped back home by these curlers and I have absolute confidence there will be more going forward."

There were no medals for GB after 14 days in Beijing, but they will finish with two - and one gold - courtesy of the men's and women's curling teams.

It may not be as many medals as they had targeted, but still, what a high note for Team GB to end these Games on.

Eve Muirhead told me before the Olympics she was targeting that elusive gold. There was no messing about.

It wasn't farfetched, but nor did they come into this as red-hot favourites. They showed resilience to squeak through to the semi-finals and took it to another level when they got there.

    Never give up!
