Michael Laverty finished 19th in the British MotoGP round at Silverstone.

The Toomebridge rider was aboard the Paul Bird Motorsport machine which he is campaigning in the CRT category of the premier class in motorcycling.

Yamaha-mounted Jorge Lorenzo won a thrilling race from fellow Spaniards Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa after 20 laps of high-speed action.

Italian Valentino Rossi managed fourth position, with British rider Cal Crutchlow in seventh.

Marquez leads the championship on 233 points, with Pedrosa second on 203 and Lorenzo third on 194.

Laverty, who qualified 19th fastest, got the better of his team-mate Yonny Hernandez in the latter stages of Sunday's event.

"It was frustrating to lose touch with the guys in front of me early in the race but I recorded my fastest lap on my final circuit," said Laverty.

"I wasn't as far up as I'd like to be but it's probably a fair reflection of where we are at the moment.

"There are a few things we can work on and fix to hopefully help us go faster at the next race."

The next round of the series will be held at Misano on 15 September.
