Ian Hutchinson: Injury-hit TT star to make racing return

The Batley racer has won eight Isle of Man TT races including five in the same year.

Isle of Man TT record-breaker Ian Hutchinson will make his comeback at next month's Macau Grand Prix.

Hutchinson, who became the first rider to win all five solo TT races in the same year in 2010, will race for the Milwaukee Yamaha team.

The Yorkshire rider, 34, has undergone 29 operations in the last three years following a crash at Silverstone.

"It has been a long road, but I am more determined than ever to get myself fit and at the front," he said.

"I can't wait to get back to racing, the hard work begins now and it will be worth it!"

"It (Macau) is the final meeting of the year before winter and it will be great to go though the process of practice, qualifying and the race."

Hutchinson, from Bingley, suffered serious leg injuries in the high-speed crash at Silverstone, just three months after his five-timer at the TT, and later described the day as the "worst of his life."

The following year he suffered a further leg fracture in a motorcycle stunt display in London, setting back his recovery and although he returned to compete in the 600cc Isle of Man TT race in 2012, he has not raced since then.

"The bikes have moved on and I need to catch up. I am not setting myself any major goals but I want to be competitive at the major internationals in 2014," said Hutchinson, who is also targeting a British Championship return.

The Macau race will take place on 16 November and the field will be headed by Michael Rutter, who won it for a record eighth time last year.

A high-quality field also includes Senior TT winner John McGuinness, Gary Johnson and Dean Harrison, as well as a host of top international names from Europe and around the world.
