A Dutch motorcyclist has been killed during a qualifying session for the Manx Grand Prix held on the Isle of Man TT course, organisers have confirmed.

Hoogkarspel racer Dennis Hoffer, 42, died following a crash near the 13th Milestone at about 18:30 BST on Wednesday.

Hoffer had been making his debut at the Isle of Man event but had raced regularly in Europe since 2009.

The Manx Motor Cycle Club passed on its condolences to his family and friends.

An event spokesman said an investigation is under way into the circumstances of the crash and that the Coroner of Inquests has been informed.

Hoffer planned to race in Monday's four-lap 151 mile (243 km) newcomers race on a 600cc Honda CBR.
