The Supertwins are first up on Thursday after missing out on Wednesday.

It was Peter Hickman's year last year in this class, as he showed the motorcycling equivalent of 'good touch for a big man' as he mastered the wee bike to take two victories.

Richard Cooper will be looking to take that crown off Hickman, while Mike Browne secured a popular podium last year.

Jeremy McWilliams is another popular rider, while Paul Jordan, Jamie Coward and Adam McLean are also contenders.

Jeremy McWilliams, Adam McLean and Michael Rutter were the first three riders on the road as the machines flash past the finishing line to complete their opening lap of this qualifying session.

They are followed by a gaggle of riders as the distinctive sound of these Supertwins bikes fill the air at the start-finish area.

It's effectively an 'out lap' this one but we should have some times for you next time they cross the line...

  5. Two riders taken to hospital after practice incidentpublished at 09:45 British Summer Time 8 May

Two riders were taken to hospital after an incident during the Supersport qualifying session on the first day of practice for the North West 200 on Wednesday.

Northern Ireland's Gary McCoy was transported to hospital by ambulance while Englishman Craig Neve was taken from the circuit by air ambulance.

Neve has sustained significant injuries, but both his and McCoy's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

"Two riders were involved in an incident at Mill Road roundabout on the NW200 course six minutes into the Supersport qualifying session," read a statement from race organisers.

"Both riders were injured in the incident and the on-course medical team attended the scene. The riders were subsequently transferred to hospital, one by road ambulance and the other by air ambulance."

  6. What is the North West 200?published at 09:42 British Summer Time 8 May

The North West 200 is an international road race that takes place on closed public roads between the towns of Portrush, Portsewart and Coleraine.

There are four different classes at the event. Supertwin is the 'slowest' (not a term I use lightly) class, followed by the Supersport, Superstock and the blue ribband Superbike class.

The Superbikes can reach up to speeds of 200mph on the run down to University corner.

Some of the big riders to look out for are Michael Dunlop, Alastair Seeley, Davey Todd, Peter Hickman and Dean Harrison.

There are practice and qualifying days on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by the first batch of races on Thursday evening.

Saturday is a day full of racing, ending with the feature North West 200 Superbike race.

That will be followed by three races in the evening as the competitive action gets under way.

A number of delays meant only the Superbikes and Supersports managed to get some track time in Wednesday practice. Here is the best of the action.

It's a sun-kissed morning on the north coast but, as we know from yesterday, good weather doesn't necessarily mean smooth running.

There were three red flags to disrupt the opening day, which meant the Superstocks and Supertwins didn't get out on track.

The scheduled has been rejigged and those classes will be first out on track, and I image there will be an eager anticipation to get up and running as swiftly as possible.

Let's hope it's a good day of action before our first three races this evening.

  10. Good morning from the North West 200published at 09:27 British Summer Time 8 May

It's day two of this year's North West 200 meeting, with four qualifying sessions scheduled for the early part of the day, followed by the first three races of the event this evening.

After Wednesday's disrupted practices, everyone is hoping that things go more smoothly today.

Conditions are once again perfect, with the sun shining and dry roads around the nine-mile circuit.

Spectators have been gathering from early morning to book their preferred vantage points and the team technicians have been working away on the bikes in the paddock, making all the necessary last-minute checks and adjustments.

We'll have full livestreamed coverage of all the qualifying and racing on the BBC Sport website and BBC iPlayer, plus audio coverage of this evening's races on BBC Sounds and BBC Radio Foyle.

    Thanks for joining us!
