Tracey Neville to coach England at netball World Cup

Neville led Manchester Thunder to the domestic Superleague title last year

Tracey Neville has been named England netball head coach on an interim basis, replacing the outgoing Anna Mayes.

The 37-year-old former international will lead the squad at this summer's World Cup in Sydney.

Neville, the sister of former England footballers Gary and Phil, will also remain in charge of Superleague champions Manchester Thunder until the end of the season.

Mayes has left the England set-up after four years at the helm.

"I'm delighted to accept this opportunity, it's a great challenge and I am looking forward to the World Cup and working with the players," said Neville.

Under Mayes, England claimed a historic first Test series win against world number one side Australia in 2013.

However, the team failed to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last summer after losing their third-place play-off with Jamaica.

Neville played for the national team in the 1998 and 2002 Commonwealth Games before retiring in 2008.

She has coached Manchester Thunder for the last four years and they are unbeaten this season, having won the title last season.

"Tracey has a proven track record both in her playing and coaching career," said England Netball chief executive Joanna Adams.

"She has achieved fantastic results with Manchester Thunder in the Netball Superleague and we firmly believe Tracey is the right person to lead us into the 2015 Netball World Cup."
