Coleraine rower Alan Campbell missed out on a medal after finishing fourth in the single sculls final at the World Championships in Chingju, South Korea.

Campbell was in a medal position but was passed by the Cuban sculler Angel Fournier Rodriguez and could not get on terms with German rower Marcus Hacker.

As expected, Ondrej Synek of the Czech Republic won, in a time of 6:45.24.

For Synek, it was his second world championship success, in addition to his silver medal at the 2012 Olympics.

London Olympics bronze medallist Campbell, who had taken second in his semi-final earlier in the week, finished the final in a time of 6:51.44.

Meanwhile in the 'B' final of the women's double sculls Enniskillen's Leonora Kennedy and Irish partner Monika Dukarska were fourth to finish 10th overall to match their goal at the start of the week in their first world championships.
