Wane expecting emotional farewell

Head coach Shaun Wane says Wigan Warriors must maintain their composure to get past Leeds in an emotional semi-final and book a Grand Final spot.

Sam Tomkins, Pat Richards and Lee Mossop are all set to make their final home appearances before leaving Wigan at the end of the season.

"It won't be too emotional because we're here to do a job," Wane told BBC North West Tonight.

"When the game's finished, we can all enjoy that emotion side of it."

England full-back Tomkins' world-record move to New Zealand Warriors was announced on Monday, ending months of speculation about his future at the DW Stadium.

, external and injured , external two more Wigan academy products, will move to Parramatta Eels and Wakefield respectively in 2014, while winger Richards is to rejoin Wests Tigers after eight seasons with the Warriors.

However, it is the farewell of Tomkins - one of the star names in world rugby - that is likely to capture most of the headlines on Friday.

Wane continued: "It's going to be a huge game anyway with the chance of getting to the Grand Final, but the fact it's going to be Sam's last game will make it extra special.

"I know all the players want to do well and make sure we get to a Grand Final to give him a good send-off. There are a few others leaving the club at the end of the year and it's going to be quite an emotional occasion.

"I don't want him [Tomkins] to go, but when he gave the reasons why he wanted to go, I understand it and I won't stand in his way. From the business side of it, we're getting really good money.

"I still think it's a great shot in the arm for the British game that somebody like him is rated so highly in the NRL."
