Super League: Warrington Wolves 36-20 Salford Red Devils

Chris Bridge collected 16 points in Warrington's win against Salford

Warrington came from behind to earn a six-try victory over Salford.

The Wolves led 22-6 lead at the break with tries from Gene Ormsby, Ryan Atkins, Chris Bridge and Joel Monaghan cancelling out Junior Sa'u's effort.

Salford fought back to 22-16 after tries from Adrian Morley and Niall Evalds but the hosts finished strongly.

Bridge kicked a penalty, Rhys Evans went over in the corner and, despite a second try for Evalds, Ben Currie crossed to seal the victory.

Salford made a fine start with Sa'u crashing over for a try down the left inside two minutes.

But Warrington responded well and, after working the overlap, Ormsby was released to go over in the corner for his ninth try of the season.

Atkins then went over under the posts after a Salford knock-on, and Bridge converted before crossing for a score himself.

Sa'u was denied a try for a double movement before Monaghan grabbed his 15th of the season before the break. Bridge added the extras.

Warrington boss Tony Smith later revealed Monaghan played on despite dislocating his jaw during the game.

Morley crashed over for Salford against his former side, while Evalds touched down a fine Rangi Chase grubber kick to reduce the deficit to six points, before Bridge stretched the lead with a penalty.

Evans scored Warrington's fifth try in the corner and Bridge converted for 30-16.

Evalds gave Salford some hope with a late effort but Chase missed his second conversion and any chance of a comeback was ended by Currie's late score.

Warrington boss Tony Smith: "Our defence was mostly good apart from a try from dummy half and two from kicks. We were a bit off the mark and not in full flow.

"But there was no lack of effort and both Ben Harrison and Ben Westwood were fantastic.

"Mickey Higham had his moments and Matty Russell looked dangerous.

"Ryan Atkins was incredible in defence and I felt one of his hits from the stand. It was a ripper."

Salford boss Iestyn Harris: "We didn't challenge Warrington as much as we could have done.

"There wasn't a whole lot in it but they took their opportunities and we didn't.

"The game should have been closer but we didn't do great things with the ball.

"Niall Evalds did really well and is a real talent for the future."
