Wigan Warriors: Iain Thornley's season ended by knee injury
- Published
Wigan Warriors have lost versatile back Iain Thornley for the remainder of the season after he suffered a knee injury during training this week.
Thornley, 22, had already spent four months recovering from a torn a pectoral muscle, but returned to action in Wigan's loss to Widnes on Friday.
Scans on Tuesday revealed a "serious" injury, but the club did not reveal full details or expected recovery time.
"I'm devastated for Iain," said Warriors boss Shaun Wane.
"He has worked incredibly hard this season to come back from an injury that looked to have finished his season.
"I couldn't have asked for any more from him, he is a great professional and deserves better luck than this."
Thornley, who rejoined the Warriors in 2012 after a spell playing rugby union for Sale Sharks, started the season in prolific form, scoring seven tries in his first seven Super League outings.
He was named in the starting line-up against the Vikings last week, making eight tackles and also contributing try assist.
