Iestyn Harris's Red Devils have won 11 of their 27 Super League matches this season

Salford (24) 36

Tries: Sau 2, Hansen, Puletua, Chase, Griffin

Goals: Griffin 6

Widnes (0) 6

Tries: Ah Van

Goals: Owens

Salford centre Josh Griffin contributed another big individual haul of 16 points as the Red Devils eased to victory over Widnes.

An early Harrison Hansen try put the home side on course for a 24-0 interval lead, Junior Sau, Tony Puletua and Rangi Chase also crossing.

Sau and Griffin, who landed six goals, added two more after the break.

All Widnes could respond with was a late try from winger Patrick Ah Van, converted by Jack Owens.

But Denis Betts' under-strength Vikings had minds elsewhere, having already qualified for the Super League play-offs for the first time.

With an eye on next week's play-offs, Betts had rested skipper Jon Clarke, Kevin Brown, Eamon O'Carroll, Danny Tickle and top try scorer Rhys Hanbury, who had scored a try in all three of their victories against the Red Devils this season.

Chase, who scored one himself, was the architect of three more of Salford's tries, while Griffin's high-scoring effort followed his 30 points last week in the 58-26 win over relegated London Broncos.

Salford boss Iestyn Harris:

"We didn't get out of the season what we wanted - and that was to make the top eight. But it was important to finish on our terms. We did that and defended exceptionally well.

"It's been a slow process and a big transition with a lot of new players at the start and six or seven have left during the year for various reasons.

"We have a new system, new structure and new philosophy and the players have had to deal with it. When I arrived people said Rangi Chase could not play in a structure, but he showed he can and I can't speak highly enough about him."

Widnes boss Denis Betts:

"I'm not too concerned, as we rested a few players and looked rusty and a bit disjointed. Salford were more aggressive and we know we have to apply ourselves next week. Our standards have to be there.

"We conceded two tries to two fantastic bombs to go down 12-0 but after that I thought it was pretty even.

"We lost Stefan Marsh with a calf injury but hopefully it isn't a tear. We were able to give some youngsters a run and Tom Gilmore hadn't played for a while and got through 80 minutes."
