Salford Red Devils had 'no composure' in St Helens loss

St Helens have now won their last nine meetings against Salford

Salford Red Devils head coach Iestyn Harris said his side lacked any composure during Thursday's heavy defeat against champions St Helens.

In their first home Super League game of the 2015 season, Salford conceded 10 tries as they were beaten 52-6.

"I'm bitterly disappointed," Harris told BBC Radio Manchester.

"It's just not good enough from us. I'm disappointed not only for losing the game but also the fans who have come out in their numbers."

He added: "There was a lot of hype around the club and this game that we were going to start to compete against these top teams, and every time there is hype we seem to fold a little bit.

"We need to get to the bottom of it very, very quickly because we had no composure out there with or without the ball."

Salford owner Dr Marwan Koukash has made significant investment in the squad again to start the new season, with names such as Michael Dobson,Cory Paterson and Ben Jones-Bishop joining.

After an encouraging performance in the loss at Warrington in their opening match of the new campaign, the Red Devils did start brightly against Saints but found themselves four tries down at half-time

Ben Jones-Bishop scored in reply for the hosts, but Keiron Cunningham's team ran in a further six tries after the break in a comfortable win.

"When we had that dominant period early in the game we made three or four errors, which we shouldn't have made," stated Harris.

"It's a long season and we're only in the early stages of it.

"Yes, it's a bitterly disappointing result and we're disappointed for the fans.

"We've got two weeks now to get ourselves prepared for the next game, it's a desperately important game for getting the first two points of the season."
