Forward Nathan Massey scores his first try of the season for Castleford

Castleford put in a solid first-half performance to hand in-form Hull KR their first defeat in four.

Ken Sio grabbed an early try for Hull KR, but Jordan Tansey replied within three minutes and Luke Gale's conversion gave Cas the lead.

Two further converted tries from Gale and Nathan Massey put the home side in control at the break.

Justin Carney suffered a dislocated elbow, before Gale's drop-goal and a Frankie Mariano try secured the points.

Hull KR took a fifth-minute lead through Sio, who finished in the corner for his ninth try of the season, but Josh Mantellato missed the conversion.

The visitors' lead was short-lived when Ben Roberts sent through Tansey who crossed the line on his 40th Castleford appearance and Gale added the extras.

The Tigers struck again when Tansey's pass bounced off Hull KR's Mantellato and Gale pounced on the loose ball to score a fortunate try.

Prop Lee Jewitt came off the bench for the Tigers to make his first appearance of 2015 and the home side extended their lead when Massey broke through two defenders and Gale kicked the conversion.

The visitors could have reduced the deficit before the interval but Montellato failed to hold on to Kris Welham's pass with the try-line beckoning.

Gale then kicked a 59th-minute drop-goal before second-row Mariano powered over against his former club to give Castleford their fourth win in five games.

Rovers have not won at the Jungle since 2010 and they slip to sixth in the Super League table, while Cas leapfrog them into fifth position.

Hull KR coach Chris Chester told BBC Radio Humberside:

"We're very disappointed. We lacked any real energy today and we got our just dessets. They just seemed to run harder, tackle a lot harder than us and we had big problems coming off our own end and that was from minute one to minute 80.

"We can't use the Easter period as an excuse because Castleford have had to do the same. It's a simple game sometimes and they just seemed to run harder and tackle harder than us today.

"They could have scored and should have scored some more. They deserved the win and they were the better team for the full 80 minutes."
