Salford consider retired Martin Gleeson & Ian Watson for Hull FC

Salford Red Devils are considering registering retired assistant coaches Martin Gleeson and Ian Watson for their Super League game against Hull FC.

With up to 15 players potentially out for the game on Friday through suspension or injury, Salford had a request to postpone the game rejected.

Former centre Gleeson, 34, retired while ex-scrum-half Watson, 38, played for Swinton last June.

"It's something we've internally discussed," boss Iestyn Harris said.

"It's not new, is it? Two or three years ago (Hull FC coach) Lee Radford came out of retirement and played for Hull when they were going through similar injury issues.

"We'd have to get dispensation for that to happen but certainly Gleese is not too long retired. He's only six to eight months retired and Ian's the same."

During a 15-year career, former Great Britain man Gleeson played for Huddersfield, St Helens, Warrington, Wigan, Hull FC and Salford while ex-Wales international Watson played for such clubs such as Salford, Widnes, Leigh and Halifax.

Hooker Wayne Godwin has already re-signed on loan for Salford along with Wigan pair Oliver Gildart and James Greenwood to try and boost numbers in the squad.

Salford have also confirmed that Featherstone's Garreth Carvell, who played for Leeds, Hull FC, Castleford and Warrington, has been appointed as the club's new welfare officer.
