Super League: Hull KR 54-6 Wakefield

Josh Mantellato joined Hull KR from Newcastle Knights at the beginning of this season

Hull KR scored 10 tries against bottom-of-the-table Wakefield as they moved up to seventh in Super League.

Josh Mantellato went over twice in between tries from Kris Welham and Albert Kelly, and kicked seven goals.

Graeme Horne, Ken Sio, John Boudebza and Tyrone McCarthy also touched down alongside a Kieran Dixon double.

Joe Arundel scored Wakefield's only try as the Wildcats fell further adrift at the bottom, having now lost 11 consecutive games.

And while the battle to finish in the top eight looks wide open, Wakefield look destined to finish bottom of the table when the top two divisions split into three groups of eight after 23 matches.

Hull KR, meanwhile, bounced back well from their 60-0 defeat at Wigan six days earlier by inflicting a hammering of their own.

Before the match began there a was a minute's silence, which broke into applause, for Keighley Cougars' Danny Jones, who passed away on Sunday after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Once the action got under way, Rovers took control from the early stages.

Mantellato offloaded quickly to his left for Welham to finish well and the 28-year-old, who returned to the side having missed the Wigan game to attend his brother's wedding in Australia, turned scorer three minutes later after good work from Sio and Terry Campese.

Despite Hull KR's dominance, Arundel powered over to reduce the deficit to 8-6, but a blistering run from Kelly saw the Robins score their third try, with Mantellato finally making his first kick at goal, before the winger collected a pinpoint pass from Campese and ran down the touchline to add a fourth.

Horne further extended the hosts lead 10 minutes after the break and Dixon then scored twice in five minutes, first taking advantage of a handling error from Wakefield's Chris Riley and then racing clear to complete his brace.

Sio ran in from 20 yards out, following good work from Aaron Ollett, to allow the Australian to score underneath the sticks and hooker Boudebza touched down the home side's ninth try.

Forward McCarthy rounded off the scoring as he found the angle from Campese's sublime pass to take the home side past the 50-point mark.

Hull KR bounced back from a 60-0 loss to Wigan in their previous Super League match

"We did a lot of soul-searching during the early part of the week. We wanted to put a few wrongs right and we did that.

"We've not played here for over a month and it's really pleasing that we got a win for the fans.

"I thought we defended a lot better but there is still a lot to improve on. They broke our line a couple of times and we struggled with their offloads.

"I've got to credit my boys. They worked hard during the week and they worked hard out there tonight. I was pleased with the effort, although we looked a little nervous in the first half."

Wakefield coach James Webster:

"For parts of the game we competed all right, in other parts we were absolutely miles off. We create lots of chances and don't come up with much from them.

"We gave away 22 points through kicks which makes it even harder for us.

"We were in that game for a while, we just didn't come up with a good enough defensive effort for long enough. It's been a 10-week problem - if teams hang in there long enough against us, we leak points."
