Tim Smith had two spells at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats

Wakefield have sacked Australian scrum-half Tim Smith for gross misconduct and bringing the club into disrepute.

Smith was banned from driving for 28 months and fined £900 at Beverley Magistrates Court on Wednesday, after admitting failing to provide a specimen following a car crash in September.

The 30-year-old was also handed a £600 fine for careless driving.

Full-back Kevin Locke, who was involved in the crash with Smith and Reece Lyne, was released by the club on Tuesday.

All three were suspended by Wakefield following the incident, but centre Lyne returned to action in their 24-10 defeat by Sheffield Eagles on Sunday.

"A letter was last night sent to Tim Smith and his lawyer saying we were dismissing him for gross misconduct and bringing the club into disrepute," Wakefield chairman Michael Carter said.

Smith made 28 league appearances this season for Wildcats, who will attempt to retain their Super League status against Bradford in the Million Pound Game on Saturday.
