Salford claimed their first win of the Super League season as they beat Hull KR in convincing fashion.

Thomas Minns went over to put Rovers ahead, but tries from Gareth O'Brien, Junior Sa'u and Jake Bibby gave Salford the half-time lead.

Robert Lui crossed shortly after the break for Salford, before Adam Quinlan's try gave the visitors hope.

But the Red Devils responded strongly, as two tries from Niall Evalds put the result beyond doubt.

The hosts had scored only 12 points in each of their first two games, but coach Tim Sheens' newly-promoted Rovers were dominated in all phases.

Evalds was particularly impressive, maintaining his record of scoring at least one try in every game this season.

The visitors, without the creative presence of injured half-back Danny McGuire, offered little in attack throughout.

Rovers host last season's runners-up Castleford in their next fixture, while Salford face a challenging trip to this season's early leaders St Helens.

Salford head coach Ian Watson:

"It was massive for us to get that first win and get on the ladder. The attitude from the players was second to none.

"I feel we've improved a lot over the last three weeks. We have shown what we are about as a group and the boys stuck to the game plan rigidly.

"Everyone stepped up and we showed a lot of patience and took the opportunities when they arose. Our forwards ran strongly and defended really well - they did their task really well."

Hull KR head coach Tim Sheens:

"I am very disappointed with our performance, as are all the boys. Credit to Salford, they were just too strong for us. They played well and completed their sets.

"We were under pressure from the start. The attacking sets we did get we just threw away. I don't think we did much right.

"We were very poor and shot ourselves in the foot time and time again with some poor options."
