Wakefield Trinity maintained their 100% Super League record with a hard-fought win against a spirited Huddersfield.

Ben Jones-Bishop finished off in the corner to put Trinity in front, although Lee Gaskell went in on the right to reduce the Giants' arrears.

Liam Finn knocked over a couple of penalty goals to extend the lead before teeing up Jones-Bishop's second with a delicious chip.

Mason Caton-Brown's late free-play try ensured a fourth-straight Trinity win.

By contrast, Giants have won just one of their opening four games.

Only an air tent cover and the support of volunteers to clear the pitch allowed this game to go ahead at the second attempt after Friday's scheduled encounter was postponed because of the snow and freezing weather, and those who made the effort to attend were rewarded with a feisty encounter.

Giants enjoyed plenty of possession but failed to breach Trinity's solid defence, or take advantage of a string of penalties with the line begging, other than Gaskell's first-half effort.

Trinity might have been under the cosh at times but made their chances pay with Finn and Jacob Miller orchestrating.

Chris Chester's side were 40-1 to win Super League at the start of the season and have already made their best start to a campaign in the summer era.

Wakefield head coach Chris Chester:

"We were very good defensively and I thought we were outstanding from minute one to minute 80. We never really looked in any trouble, certainly in that second half, so I'm absolutely delighted with the performance.

"We made a few changes with the Easter period in mind and it's made my job picking a side next week very difficult because the guys who came in did a fantastic job.

"We've just spoken about our progress on and off the field and how proud we all are because this is the first time a Wakefield Trinity team have won their first four Super League games."

Huddersfield Giants coach Rick Stone:

"It was pretty frustrating with the amount of penalties we conceded but, to be honest, the better team won.

"We were ill-disciplined and untidy to say the least to give those penalties away.

"Wakey defended pretty well and that start to the second half took juice out of us and also a bit of confidence."
