Super League: Hull FC 19-18 Leeds Rhinos

Jake Connor's two tries had set Hull up for a dominant lead, but Leeds fought back to make it a close game

Marc Sneyd's 76th-minute drop-goal earned Hull FC victory against Leeds Rhinos in a dramatic Super League game.

Jake Connor and Bureta Faraimo's tries gave the Airlie Birds an 8-0 lead at the break, punishing Leeds' errors.

Connor got his second on the right to extend the lead but Ryan Hall crossed to get the Rhinos on the scoreboard.

Joel Moon's score and a penalty try turned the game on its head for Leeds but Carlos Tuimavave levelled and Sneyd settled the game with his one-pointer.

Rhinos have now suffered back-to-back one-point losses after Sam Tomkins' drop-goal secured Wigan's 9-8 win over Leeds last week.

There was no celebration in milestone matches for Rhinos veteran forward Jamie Jones-Buchanan, who marked his 400th appearance, nor Adam Cuthbertson on his 100th outing.

After the first-half, which featured an Albert Kelly masterclass with ball in hand to create both scores down the Hull right edge, it looked as though the hosts had built up a defendable lead.

However, Leeds showed their champion mettle to fight their way back into the game after an error-strewn first 40, getting off the mark from Ryan Hall's score on the left, and with Hull wobbling they pounced.

Joel Moon ripped across the line from a wrap-around play which caught Hull out defensively and then a penalty try as Matt Parcell had the ball kicked from his hands put Leeds in front for the first time.

Tuimavave's try brought Hull back level and when Sneyd missed his goal from the tee it ensured both teams would have to fight it out in a thrilling finale.

Hull were the side that responded, as former Salford half-back Sneyd made no mistake with his field goal, and it was enough to end a five-game losing streak against the Rhinos on home turf.

Hull FC head coach Lee Radford told BBC Radio 5 live sports extra:

"It's a big scalp, they're an unbelievable side so to win that contest was a real arm-wrestle.

"We'll meet again somewhere along the line this year and lets hope it's as entertaining as that was.

"Marc has won us so many games with his left foot so we'll let him off the missed kicks. I feared the worst when Leeds came back, when they chase the game they become a different animal. We had to put some special efforts in to stop that."
