Super League: Hull KR 18-20 Leeds Rhinos

Leeds Rhinos came from behind to beat Hull KR in a hard-fought Super League fixture at Craven Park.

Robbie Mulhern scored the first try for Rovers after a fine 40-20 and quick restart by Leeds old boy Danny McGuire.

Joel Moon and Jamie Jones-Buchanan went over for Leeds, but three Ryan Shaw penalties and Mose Masoe's try kept the hosts in front at the interval.

Ryan Hall crossed in the corner to put Leeds ahead early in the second half, and Rovers could not respond.

The home team were angered by the decision to rule out a try for a knock-on when Chris Atkin thought he had restored his side's lead.

And Justin Carney was stopped just short of the line as Hull KR applied waves of pressure, but they were unable to crack a much-improved Leeds defence after the interval.

Brian McDermott's side were helped by Masoe's yellow card for a high tackle on Ashton Golding, as Hall scored what proved to be the decisive try with Hull KR down to 12 men.

The victory lifted Leeds above Hull FC to fifth in the table, with Hull KR four points adrift of the top eight as they stayed 10th.

Hull KR coach Tim Sheens:

"We made too many mistakes and not enough completed sets.

"Our completion rate was only 50 per cent in the second half and as boring as that is, you can't win games when you don't complete at a higher level.

"For courage I give them 200 per cent but we shot ourselves in the foot too many times - we have no toes left.

"We took too many poor options and we could have won the game had we taken the right options."

Leeds coach Brian McDermott:

"We were really good in effort, and some parts of our defence were outstanding and some parts of our attack were OK to good.

"There is lots of improvement in us and we come away with a tight win instead of a close loss.

"Hull KR were always going to put in a big effort with the ex-Leeds players that they've got and they played with a lot of ascendancy in the first half especially.

"All things considered, I'd give this win a thumbs up. We need to come here and win by a better margin than the two points, but that's disrespectful to KR."
