Harvey Livett has scored six tries in five Super League games this season

A Harvey Livett hat-trick helped Warrington extend their winning run to nine with a battling victory at Leeds.

Warrington led at the break thanks to tries from Kevin Brown and Livett, with Ashton Golding replying for the hosts.

The Rhinos turned it around after the break thanks to tries from Joel Moon, Ryan Hall and Carl Ablett.

However, Ryan Atkins got Wolves back in it before Livett went over twice to complete his treble and Ben Murdoch-Masila sealed an impressive victory.

The success strengthens the Wire's grip on third place in the table, while Leeds remain in fifth, nine points behind leaders St Helens with a game in hand.

The Rhinos have now lost three of their last four games coach Brian McDermott will have been unhappy with how his team allowed the visitors to score four unanswered tries in the second half when Leeds had built up an 11-point lead.

The 16-minute blitz from Wolves included Livett scoring twice in two minutes as he scored his first hat-trick for the club.

Warrington will be looking to extend their winning run when they host Championship side Toronto in the Challenge Cup on Sunday, while the Rhinos visit struggling Widnes in the Cup on Friday.

Leeds coach Brian McDermott:

"I thought Warrington's defence was just too stiff for us.

"We found it hard to break a tackle in the early stages and I thought we were ineffective with the ball.

"We played without momentum for the first 20, 25 minutes and, as a result, we ended up playing catch-up.

"We got back into it and showed some character and some skill and we went through a purple patch with the ball but I never thought we were quite in charge."

Warrington coach Steve Price:

(On Harvey Livett being out of contract at the end of the season) "Hopefully we'll sort that out very shortly. He wants to stay here, he's a local junior and loves the club and I want to keep him for years to come.

"I felt we were always in control of the game. I was disappointed with the start of the second half, there were some calls that I couldn't get my head around.

"Credit to Leeds, they're a quality football team, and they scored a number of quick tries in succession but one thing I was pleased with was our ability to hang tough.

"I thought we showed a lot of resilience. I think we've started to turn the corner tonight in a lot of aspects."
