Wakefield Trinity ran in eight tries to consign Super League bottom side Widnes to an 11th straight defeat.

Wakefield led 22-0 at the break, with tries from Tom Johnstone, Ben Jones-Bishop, Bill Tupou and Reece Lyne.

Tupou grabbed Trinity's fifth try early in the second half before Stefan Marsh responded for the lowly visitors.

While Widnes added three further tries, a try apiece from James Batchelor and Tinirau Arona and a second from Lyne ensured an comfortable Trinity win.

Chris Chester's Wakefield side absorbed early Widnes pressure and dealt with the loss of captain Danny Kirmond to a knee injury before piling on 22 unanswered first-half points.

Despite having Krisnan Inu available to start on his return after 12 weeks out with a broken leg, the prolific centre could not help end the losing run which began in the match - a defeat by Warrington - he was injured in on 30 March.

Marsh's try after Tupou made it 28-0, and further scores from Danny Walker, Alex Gerrard and Ryan Ince, ensured Trinity had to work hard in the second half to consolidate their spot in Super League's top eight.

After 18 games, Trinity are sixth in the table and four points ahead of Catalans Dragons in ninth, while Widnes are bottom and three points adrift of nearest rivals Hull KR.
