Super League: Wigan Warriors 13-12 Warrington Wolves

Josh Woods' dramatic drop-goal, landed with 23 seconds of the match remaining, means Wigan have won all nine of their Super League games at the DW Stadium in 2018

Josh Woods' last-gasp drop-goal gave Wigan victory over Warrington to extend their 100% home record in Super League.

The Wolves almost stole the win just before as Josh Charnley crossed to make it 12-12, but Stefan Ratchford failed to add the extras from out wide.

Wigan led 12-4 at the break through converted tries by Tom Davies and Liam Paisley, as Toby King crossed in reply.

Tom Lineham reduced the deficit and Charnley levelled the scores before Woods' final-minute effort settled it.

The Cherry and Whites had dominated the first half but Warrington worked their way back into the match in the second period, which proved to be an attritional affair.

The visitors had a chance of winning the match when Charnley, returning to the DW Stadium to face Wigan for the first time since he left club to cross codes and join Sale Sharks in 2016, held off three defenders to ground the ball in the corner with three minutes left.

But Ratchford pulled his conversion just wide of the sticks to set up a dramatic finale and, after Warrington's Tyrone Roberts missed with a drop-goal attempt from 40 metres out, 20-year-old stand-off Woods saw his left-footed kick bisect the posts to give the Warriors a vital two points which preserves their second-placed position in the table.

Wire, who knocked Wigan out of the Challenge Cup at the quarter-final stage a month ago, remain third and are now four points behind their rivals with three games of the regular season remaining.

Wigan coach Shaun Wane:

"I'm a big Warrington fan - they're a champion club - but I thought we deserved it at the end.

"We were busted before the game started, we had players who shouldn't have played and we lost Liam Farrell and Tony Clubb for long periods but they dug in.

"We've got some big players out and to scrag that win in the end, I'm really pleased.

"Josh Woods is a cool player. He's relaxed and laid back which frustrates me but he does some good things."

Warrington coach Steve Price:

"It's a tough loss. We scored three tries to two but full credit to Wigan, I thought they were courageous.

"We were a bit off the mark in the first half but so much better in the second half, when we dominated field position.

"I thought our game management let us down big time but I'm really proud of the effort. The way they came back shows the character in the group."
