Super League: Hull FC 34-10 Leeds Rhinos

Half-back Marc Sneyd scored 14 of Hull's 34 points

Hull FC blew away a struggling Leeds side with five first-half tries to set up a third straight Super League win.

The Rhinos led 10-0 after teenager Harry Newman and former Hull wing Tom Briscoe crossed early on.

But once Ratu Naulago got the home side started they tore through the visitors - adding 30 points in 17 minutes.

It left the second half as little more than a formality as Leeds suffered a fifth defeat in six games under new head coach Dave Furner.

If the Australian was concerned after his side's defensive capitulation against Wakefield last week, he will have been horrified by the ease at which Hull ran through his team in the opening period.

While the Black and Whites should be praised for their attack, the Rhinos consistently gave them a helping hand by regularly conceding penalties.

Five defeats from six for Leeds

Leeds - who sacked Brian McDermott as head coach last season after seven years in charge - look to be heading for another difficult campaign unless they can quickly arrest their poor form.

They are second from bottom and have already conceded 170 points this season.

Lee Radford's team on the other hand have recovered superbly from narrow losses against Hull KR and Castleford to climb to fourth in the table.

Things had started promisingly for Leeds when Newman - a starter because Carl Ablett was injured in the warm-up - scored his first Rhinos try and Briscoe quickly extended their lead.

But the hosts burst into life when a fabulous pass from half-back Albert Kelly sent Naulago in to score on his home debut.

Masi Matongo then barged his way over, Marc Sneyd crossed following a superb break from Mark Minichiello, Jamie Shaul went under the posts and Kelly snuck in from close range - each converted by the impressive Sneyd.

Dean Hadley's try added further gloss in an uneventful second half.

Hull FC head coach Lee Radford told BBC Radio Humberside:

"There were some fantastic tries scored after a very poor start to the game.

"We notoriously find it hard to beat Leeds so I'd take any kind of win against them.

"In that 20-minute period that we dominated we just got a bit of a roll on.

"But there was also a bit of game plan stuff in there so to see that come to fruition was pleasing."

Leeds Rhinos head coach Dave Furner told BBC Radio Leeds:

"The period in the first half from 18 minutes onwards to half-time was probably what I'd describe as a car crash.

"Defensively we were not to the standards we need to be - there were some missed tackles there that weren't good enough.

"Our discipline wasn't good enough either, but that still doesn't mean they should score those types of tries.

"That period is as upset and disappointed as I've been since being in charge of this team."
