Hull KR hooker Michael McIlorum will retire at the end of the season, bringing down the curtain on an 18-year career.

The 37-year-old made his senior debut for Wigan in 2007 and won two Super League Grand Finals with the Cherry and Whites.

He moved to Catalans in 2018, won the Challenge Cup in his first season and spent seven seasons with the club before joining Hull KR ahead of 2025 where he has helped Robins to the Challenge Cup and League Leaders' Shield.

"On behalf of the club, I'd like to thank Micky McIlorum for his contributions to Hull KR this season," boss Willie Peters said.

"You can't put a value on experience and how players add to culture. But Micky has certainly played a massive part in the success of the Robins this year."

McIlorum played for both Ireland and England internationally and most recently played for England in the 2021 Rugby League World Cup.

He has had an injury-hit spell with Hull KR, however, missing two months with a bicep injury sustained in April as well as fracturing his ankle in August.

Despite his injuries, he is in line to turn out for the club when their play-off campaign begins next week.

"I haven't coached a tougher person or competitor than Micky," Peters added.

"It's a pleasure to say I've coached him in the last season of his career."
