Huddersfield Giants forward Andre Savelio is to leave full-time rugby league with immediate effect to focus on his health.

Savelio, 29, has mutually agreed to end his contract with the Giants, one year after joining on a two-year deal from Hull FC.

The forward, who has also played for St Helens, Castleford Tigers and Warrington Wolves, managed just nine appearances for Huddersfield last season.

"The move is on good terms, and I'm going to take some time to look after my personal health, and reassess what my options are moving forward," he told the club's website, external.

The prop missed the first half of the 2024 Super League season due to a head issue and now, after discussions with specialists, Savelio is taking a break from the sport.

Giants managing director Richard Thewlis said: "I'm sure this would have been a difficult decision for Andre to arrive at but it’s one we've supported him in and wish him every success in the future."
