Leigh are the first to get through elimination weekend, and are heading toward a milestone semi-final next week.

Three second-half tries from Edwin Ipape, Gareth O'Brien and Josh Charnley - whose night was ended when he suffered a neck injury - has Leigh just 80 minutes away from the Grand Final.

Salford, a side lauded as entertainers throughout the season, have been left stunned as their season ends in front of a packed home crowd.

While that's all for the Red Devils this season, we have only just got started with the Super League play-offs.

Tomorrow, Warrington Wolves host St Helens in the second eliminator.

It's a match you can follow right here, and live on BBC Two, iPlayer and various BBC radio stations.

For now, it's goodnight from us.

  2. 'So proud of this group'published at 22:19

    Salford 6-14 Leigh

Leigh head coach Adrian Lam speaking to Sky Sports:

I am so proud of them as they just got bombarded in that first 40 minutes. But the courage that we showed to keep turning up – I am just so happy for the whole town.

The team are very connected as a group and I love them dearly. Yes we are losing a lot of them at the end of the year but they are playing for each other now.

I don’t know how we have managed to turn it round this season but we just had to keep believing in each other and stick to our processes.

If we had lost another game in the second half of that season we wouldn’t have been here tonight.

But we are heading in the right direction and we will deal with whoever we get next week whether it is our neighbours or if we are heading up the motorway but we will enjoy this moment because they don’t come around too often.

  3. 'It's our last dance together'published at 22:13 British Summer Time 27 September

    Salford 6-14 Leigh

Edwin Ipape speaking to Sky Sports:

"It has been a massive couple of weeks for the club and there has been a massive three months. If we hadn’t won as many as we have we wouldn’t be in a position to play this tonight. I was just lucky to get over the line tonight and play a part in this win.

"We have had this squad for two or three years now and some have come from overseas and we have built a family and a culture. It has kept us close together and it is sad that some of the boys will be leaving us at the end of the season.

"But that last dance mentality has been a motivation for this group and we are saying it every opportunity we get. We leave everything out there and we get out of this on our terms. It is our last dance."

They have totally dominated the second half there. Salford were very good in the first half but they just did not get to the game in the second. They had a good spell for the last five or six minutes but ultimately Leigh have been too good.

Unbelievable reaction from Leigh. That was just the perfect reaction to see a player go off then get the dropout, set themselves up on that side then Edwin Ipape gets it at second receiver.

He has that fade and he absolutely struts straight through the Salford line. That is a big big try in terms of this game.
