Marc Sneyd probably hit that kick an inch too long – that’s how much – and that was transitioned from Leigh, Matt Moylan breaking really, really well.

Leigh then go full length of the field, get to 20 metres then nearly came up with the try. That set just summed up the game superbly for me.

After an utterly hectic finish to the first 40 minutes, Salford manage to hold Leigh out and retain this very slender half-time lead.

    Salford 2-0 Leigh

In a flash, Matt Moylan has Salford scrambling.

He brilliantly takes another of those Marc Sneyd high kicks down, and then just bolts down field.

He zigs and zags away from some attention, then offloads for Ricky Leutele who makes it to the halfway line...

Leigh keep the ball alive and drive upfield, there are a few kicks, and lots of broken play before Nene Macdonald comes up with the ball for Salford.

    Salford 2-0 Leigh

It's kick, tackle, repeat at the moment for both sides.

Marc Sneyd sends up a high ball that Josh Charnley defuses, and Leigh turn to Lachlan Lam in search of relief at the end of their resulting set.

The respite is only brief, as Salford come again...

Sensational defence from Salford. Unbelievable. Ever since they have got the two points and now they have stopped giving the penalties away you can see they are starting to control the game.

    Salford 2-0 Leigh

Well, this frenzied tackle just about sums up this game.

Leigh are three tackles into their six, and pinned inside their defensive 10.

Darnell McIntosh tries to run the ball, but Salford swarm with a tackle and he is forced all the ball back in goal.

And with that, Salford regain the ball from a drop-out restart.

It's toe-to-toe stuff all over the park right now.

On the last tackle, Leigh run it from deep in their own half before a kick is soccered through.

Salford collect and like a red wave, come back at the Leopards.

    Salford 2-0 Leigh

Salford are quick to try add to their advantage now.

Nene Macdonald has the Red Devils within striking distance after going on a barnstormer of a carry.

In the end, however, Darnell McIntosh is able to mop up for Leigh to keep the hosts out.

You can see the game-plan from Salford. They are targeting around Gareth O’Brien and not because he’s a bad catcher of the ball but stature-wise he is not as tall. You just have to put the ball in the right area and compete for it.

  10. PENALTY: Salford 2-0 Leighpublished at 27 mins

    Marc Sneyd

While replays rule out the try, play is brought back and Salford are awarded a penalty.

Marc Sneyd calls for the tee, and he boots the first points of the game.

  11. NO TRYpublished at 20:36 British Summer Time 27 September

    Salford 0-0 Leigh

Marc Sneyd kicked on the last, and after Matt Moylan fails to bring the high ball down it results in a free-for-all with Salford appearing to touch down.

The call was no try on the field, and replays show there was a knock-on from Chris Hankinson.

  12. TRY REVIEW: Salfordpublished at 26 mins

    Salford 0-0 Leigh

Salford might just have come up with a breakthrough.

The call is no try on the field, but we go up to the video referee...

  13. Postpublished at 23 mins

    Salford 0-0 Leigh

Salford have done a ton of work in defence, but they are showing they have plenty of zip in them in attack.

They keep the ball alive as they try to force their way through, and two repeat sets has them just metres out.

Their raid on the line, however, comes to nothing as Loghan Lewis fumbles the ball as he tries to play it.

That has cost them a genuinely big chance of breaking this deadlock.

    Salford 0-0 Leigh

The Salford Community Stadium is jumping tonight!

It’s a packed crowd that’s buzzing with excitement. Expectations are that that attendance tonight will be the biggest Salford have had since moving to this venue 13 years ago.

    Salford 0-0 Leigh

    Luke Adamson
Former Salford player on BBC Radio Manchester

Leigh have had the better of it especially with the attacking opportunities they’ve had and the amount of penalties they’ve had.

But though they’ve managed to get into the Salford half more they are not finishing the sets of six and not punishing Salford yet.

    Salford 0-0 Leigh

A handing error now costs Leigh as they prowl down the right.

Gareth O'Brien shifts the ball on to Umyla Hanley, but he loses his grip when trying to plot his way towards the line.

  17. Postpublished at 18 mins

    Salford 0-0 Leigh

Marc Sneyd is usually the one causing havoc with his kicks, but he has just come up with a stunning way to defuse a chip kick through from John Asiata.

His dive to meet the ball is incredible when the Leopards were looking to pounce.

  18. Postpublished at 17 mins

    Salford 0-0 Leigh

More poor discipline from Salford hands Leigh another promising moment in this game.

This time Tim Lafai hits Umyla Hanley off the ball as Leigh looked to break away.

It hands them another set to start just 20m out...

  19. Postpublished at 15 mins

    Salford 0-0 Leigh

A spiral kick from Marc Sneyd has Salford scrambling for a moment.

The ball is allowed to bounce, but Josh Charnley reads it wonderfully for the Leopards and clutches it before the chasing Red Devils can reach it.

    Salford 0-0 Leigh

    Luke Adamson
Former Salford player on BBC Radio Manchester

Leigh have been superb defensively on the try-line. Salford had a number of sets and Marc Sneyd’s kicking with pinpoint accuracy on every single kick he’s had.

Zak Hardaker has come off the bench and handled everything that has come at him really well.
