Ian Watson, I have to add, was a bit more amped up for the today's game.

In his pre-match interview with BBC Radio Leeds you could really here just how excited the Giants boss gets about when talking of the prospect of taking Huddersfield to Wembley for the Challenge Cup final.

It’s an occasion that he says he was “brought up on it, watching with family” and sees it as a “massive occasion”.

“I hope we get the best performance we can put out there and put ourselves in a position to compete to be in the final,” said Watson, who has previously taken Salford to the showpiece event.

Sam Burgess, the dual code former England international, was Warrington rock star coaching appointment for the new season.

He has brought his own brand of hype to the game, no doubt.

But ahead of this semi-final showdown, and as his side try inch closer to a first piece of silverware under the 35-year-old, he has done his best to talk things down.

"We understand what is on the line, we are not naive," Burgesstold BBC Radio Merseyside.

" It’s a big occasion - it’s cracking for us as a club and the town - and we understand the responsibility on our shoulders as a team, but it will be business as usual.

"The week is the same, we have another team in front of us which is a challenge.

"We have prepped exactly the same way, nothing too drastic will change. We are trying to build our year on consistency so we are not going to change that now."

  4. Giants find extra motivation in defeat - Watsonpublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 19 May

    Huddersfield v Warrington (15:15 BST)

Mention Wigan around the Huddersfield Giants folk, and you are likely to get a steely stare down.

Why? Well, the Warriors pulled them apart just a week ago.

Giants head coach Ian Watson has dissected where things went wrong in their heavy defeat by Wigan last week and has spoken about “positive” discussions and feelings of atonement during the week.

Watson felt they moved away from their strengths of playing as a “collective” unit, so expect a more disciplined showing today.

“The boys look like they have their focus back and are all back on board hopefully,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.

“One of the big things for us is the last game will serve as a little motivation to change things around. Although this is a semi-final and that serves as a motivation on its own, the performance we dished up last week in the last 20 minutes, and the way it wasn’t anything like us, should give us extra motivation to fit it.”

Wigan thrash Hull KR to reach Challenge Cup final

Wigan have already confirmed their place in the Challenge Cup final on 8 June.

And they did so in simply brutal fashion, thrashing Hull KR 38-6 at Doncaster on Saturday.

Wigan ran in seven tries and had Robins boss Willie Peters with little more to say than his side was "beaten by a far better team".

I think he summed things up when he called the reigning Super League champions and World Club Challenge holders as "the benchmark".
