Cornish Pirates have completed the signing of Redruth fly-half Aaron Penberthy on a dual-registration deal.

The 19-year-old will be loaned back to the Reds by the Pirates.

"The arrangement is of benefit to both clubs, and is importantly of particular benefit to Aaron himself," said Pirates chief executive Rod Coward.

Penberthy, whose father Dave is the director of rugby at Redruth, was set to sign this summer but the deal ran into problems.

"The application and effort displayed by Aaron during pre-season has been impressive, and he is clearly a talented young player with real potential," Coward added.

Penberthy came up through the youth ranks at the Rec and scored 247 points for Redruth last season.

He has also represented that won the Daily Mail RBS Schools Cup in 2009., external
