Newcastle Falcons head coach Alan Tait says the club's recent poor league form made him question his position.

Friday's 16-16 draw with fellow strugglers Worcester was the Premiership bottom club's third game in a row without a win.

"As a head coach you wonder if it's you that is wrong, it does float through your mind," Tait told BBC Newcastle.

"I'd have been under pressure from my own of mind [if we had lost], I don't often get pushed, I usually jump."

Tait added: "Lots of things go through your mind and I don't shy away from it."

The Kelso-born coach, who played international rugby in both codes, took over from Steve Bates in the final weeks of the end of the 2009-10 season, and had his first full campaign last term.

Friday's fightback against the Warriors meant no change in the league positions for either team at the foot of the table.

Worcester's five-point lead over the Tynesiders also remains intact going into European matches against Lyon and Petrarca Padova.

"I've got to be happy in some ways and pretty disappointed in others," added Tait.

"We've got to learn and get out there and believe in ourselves.

"The first half hour we didn't turn up, and that's frustrating when we're the home team with the crowd we had.

"I don't know if it's nerves and we're thinking about relegation, it's pretty nerve-wracking out there."
