Richie Gray hopes to have proved a point with a crucial try in Glasgow Warriors' win over Bath.

The Scotland lock, who this week agreed to join Sale next season, went over to put Glasgow ahead and Duncan Weir's conversion completed a 26-21 win.

"It was brilliant," Gray told BBC Scotland. "It was good to get the try. Hopefully I won't get as much stick over the next couple of days.

"For the 80 minutes we really battled and it's brilliant to get the result."

Glasgow's win sent them to the top of Heineken Cup Pool 3, with Edinburgh having won their Pool 2 match against London Irish on Saturday.

"You see over the weekend it's been highlighted that you have to win your home games so it puts us in a really strong position," added Gray.

"We've won against [next weekend's opponents] Leinster away, earlier in the RaboDirect Pro 12 and they'll have a bit of revenge to get so we know how tough that'll be but we go over there with a huge amount of confidence and looking to get something out of that game.

"The huge thing for Scottish rugby was to really show people what we can do and what we're about and we've proved in Europe that we can compete with the best and we can win games; Edinburgh winning down there against London Irish, great result, and up here another great result.

"So we've proved that we can hold our own."

The victory at Firhill ended a week in which Gray was the subject of much media attention after announcing his impending departure.

And Gray told the Press Association: "The main focus was to give everything in a Warriors shirt while I'm still here.

"That is the focus for me and that's the way I'll always be."

Warriors head Sean Lineen coach praised the application of the players.

"I'm delighted for the players, they've put so much work in," he told BBC Scotland.

"I was delighted with Edinburgh's win yesterday, following on from the Italian double last week.

"It's a good place to be at the moment - you can't always say that about Scottish rugby, so things are looking a lot more positive."
