Tries from Andy Goode and Marcel Garvey saw Worcester secure a crucial victory over local rivals Gloucester.

Charlie Sharples went over for Gloucester to give the visitors a 10-6 lead at half-time.

But Goode then crossed five minutes after the break to put the hosts in front for the first time before converting and then adding a penalty.

Ex-Gloucester wing Garvey got Warriors' second try before Jonny May secured the visitors a losing bonus point.

Worcester's second-half fight-back saw them move even further away from bottom side Newcastle, with Warriors now up to ninth and 13 points clear of the Falcons.

But at half-time Gloucester looked the more likely to claim victory, having had the better of the opening 40 minutes and arguably deserving more than their four-point lead suggested.

Freddie Burns kicked the visitors in front before Joe Carlisle levelled the scores at 3-3.

But Gloucester, who have only won one of their last 10 away games, made a significant breakthrough as their territorial advantage allowed Sharples to cross close to the sideline after good link-up play by Olly Morgan and Henry Trinder.

After the try was confirmed by the television match official, Burns added a testing conversion from out wide before Carlisle closed the gap with the final kick of the half.

Goode replaced the Warriors fly-half at the break and inspired the hosts as they turned the game around.

The former England international saw a penalty attempt bounce back off an upright before crossing under the posts for Worcester's opening try and then adding a conversion.

The 31-year-old was not done yet as he then kicked over a penalty to give Warriors a six-point lead.

Gloucester full-back Morgan was then carried off and the visitors' day got even worse when Garvey gathered Henry Trinder's kick in Worcester's 22 before racing clear to give the hosts what proved to be an unassailable lead.

Goode missed the conversion attempt before May scored Gloucester's second try but Warriors held on to record back-to-back Premiership victories.

POST-MATCH VIEWS

Worcester head coach Richard Hill told BBC Hereford & Worcester:

"The disappointing thing at half-time was that we had had probably about half a dozen set-pieces in attack and failed to take advantage of that.

"That has been a problem with our attack as we get into positions and make a mistake too quickly.

"That was very frustrating and at 16-10 down I thought we had the better of the first half but we hadn't taken advantage of the attacking set-pieces that we had.

"But the intensity was good and the pace was good so we just said we had to start the second half with a bang and we were not going to lose on this ground."

Gloucester head coach Bryan Redpath told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

"I felt that Freddie Burns directed us around well in the first half, but in the second half our retention of possession was poor and we tried to throw the ball around a bit too much.

"We got a point away from home and we were close today, but close is not good enough. I'm hugely disappointed, but nobody comes to Worcester and gets an easy game so credit to them for that.

"We have to come out fighting against Quins next week, we have nothing to lose, but we need to reflect on this week's performance and make sure our mindset is really focused."
