Swalec Cup: Cross Keys 32-19 Pontypridd
- Published
Cross Keys made up for the heartache of losing one final this season by beating Pontypridd to lift the Swalec Cup.
The Gwent club, who lost to Munster A in the British and Irish Cup final, finally got their hands on silverware for the first time in their history.
Lock Dan Lodge, hooker Gerwyn Price and wing Nathan Trowbridge crossed for Cross Keys' three tries.
Wing Matthew Nuthall crossed for Ponty in a game they led 13-5 at half-time.
Nuthall had crossed for a try midway through the first half to give Ponty a 13-6 lead at half-time.
But Keys drew level when second row Dan Hodge burrowed over from short-range to level the scores at 13-13 just after the break.
Fly-halves Dean Gunter and Lewis Williams, who enjoyed a rare old kicking duel, swapped penalties before Cross Keys hooker Gerwyn Price and Nathan Trowbridge crossed for tries to clinch a famous victory at the home of Welsh rugby.
Meanwhile, Penallta of Division Two East won the Swalec Plate Final with a 21-15 victory over Nant Conwy of Division One North.
Glyncoch of Division Six Central won the Swalec Bowl Final when they ran out 16-14 winners over New Tredegar of Division Four East in the Swalec Bowl Final.
