Redruth go third after impressive 28-6 win at Shelford

Redruth boss Adrian Edwards says his side showed their commitment to the club with a 28-6 win over National Two South high-flyers Shelford.

The club will discuss financial problems at a meeting on Tuesday, but Edwards was pleased at the way the players put those concerns to one side.

"We drew strength from the situation and it was a good weekend and a great performance," he told BBC Cornwall.

"It speaks volumes and hopefully we can move on and create something special."

It was the second successive game that Redruth did not concede a try after beating Dings Crusaders 21-0 last week and the club are now up to third in National Two South.

Ben Priddey's early try gave the Reds a 5-0 lead before two penalties from Shelford's Steve Smith.

But from then on it was all Redruth as Tom Notman and Lewis Vinnicombe went over to add to a conversion and penalty from Paul Thirlby.

Nick Simmons scored a try after half-time before Thirlby added a late penalty to seal the win.

"To go to a club like Shelford and not concede a try, for the second week on the trot, is a massive credit to the club," Edwards said.

"They've had a tough week in some ways and it could have gone the other way, but those boys are good and they worked so hard to prevent them from scoring, and it's brilliant.

"We needed to back the club up with the performance and, while we couldn't have predicted the scoreline, without doubt with the added issues, it's even more special."
