Launceston boss happy with defence after 61-0 Barking win

Launceston boss Cliff Rainford says not letting bottom-of-the-table Barking score any points was just as pleasing as the seven tries his side scored.

They won 61-0 to secure their fourth successive victory.

"We defended really well and to not ship any points is just as important as the 61 points we did get, Rainford told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"It's good, we've got a mix of experienced players and young guys and it's really starting to knit together."

The Cornish All Blacks were 35-0 up inside half an hour as Josh Lord went over twice while Lewis Paterson and Sam Chapman scored a try each after a fourth-minute penalty try.

Launceston scored a penalty try in the fourth minute of the second half before Chapman scored two more to complete his hat-trick and Richard Friend crossed with five minutes left as fly-half Kieron Lewitt kicked six conversions.

"It's nice to get that momentum going and we'll carry that forward into the Canterbury game," Rainford said as Launceston moved up to sixth place in National Two South.

"It's very easy in this league to take someone for granted just because they've lost their last 12 games.

"I didn't want to be the first one on the list to lose a game so we put our strongest side out and gave them all the respect they deserved."
